Laser Spectroscopy Group

The Laser Spectroscopy Group at The University of Sydney is an amalgamation of the groups of Scott Kable, Tim Schmidt and Klaas Nauta from the School of Chemistry. The group studies many aspects of molecular spectroscopy, from astrophysical studies to nano-solvation in liquid helium. A new femtosecond spectroscopy laboratory will be commissioned in 2007.

New labs nearly ready (left: nano, right: femto)

Our group has many tunable laser systems and performs experiments utilizing many different techniques, including:

• Laser induced fluorescence

• Laser induced phosphorescence

• Resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization

• Helium droplet isolation

• Dispersed fluorescence
